Ascension
James Banks
There is no way you could possibly be reading this
I haven’t even learned how to speak
But I have felt and awakened a time, two times and
A time and a half
I was introduced to light at a young age
I screamed, I wanted a touch
It was enough for me
I lost consciousness.
They took me by the armpits
They hoisted me and bumped me up and down
Thoughts spiraled in my head
Not wordly thoughts
There was a dance to the thoughts
I wanted to know what was the point of them
This was too much for me to be silent
I called out, expressing wordless thoughts with
Wordless groans
“Patience” was a sound I heard
“Patience” to what does that refer?
When will I hear it next?
I had a premonition when they took me by the arms again
That when this time is up I will do this again, in quite a different context.
They will take me by the armpits and lead me to rooms
I will wear unfamiliar clothes and I will cry out
And when two times are up I will be lead once more, wearing
A new set of clothes. And I will be lead once more from resting place
To resting place
As I was recording all this in my memory, without words
I passed out.
I awaken.
Time has dawned on me, as did the color red, as did the shape of the smile.
“Mama” When will I hear that sound again? There is a change in the air and
soon my time will be up. Between the two times and the one time there
is the time and a half.
Being half way is being in tension
I cry
Events rush around me.
I am lifted on high.
