Water
by Kitty Liang
Poetry
lately I've been drinking
a lot of water
so much, in fact, that
i have to buy it from the store
two gallons
my passenger seat thinks
two gallons
make a person
all the way home
i listen to the incessant beeping
of the seat belt alarm
designed for people
who have people
i stop at a cross walk
to watch a woman
with an eight-legged dog
stroll by
but really
it was two dogs
with the same shape
walking, pressed against one another
twins, i think
it's only January
but in the stores
on the shelves
under florescent lights
roses are already
in blossom
i drive home with the radio
turned up all the way
to a station
that only plays music
from another century
